Welcome back to Where U BEANS!? and in this episode we’re trading the neon lights and nonstop buzz of the Las Vegas Strip for something far more raw, rugged, and unforgettable. Just 30 minutes west of the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, tucked along Highway 159, lies one of the Southwest’s true mountain biking gems: the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. And today’s ride? An absolute mountain biking bucket-list MUST.
The main event is Flow Job, a legendary 4.7-mile downhill masterpiece that drops nearly 1,200 feet as it carves dramatically across the mountainside. This trail is the definition of flow—fast, technical, scenic, and wildly exposed in places. Hugging the red sandstone cliffs, Flow Job delivers nonstop grins with perfectly spaced turns, natural rock features, and heart-pounding moments where the trail edge reminds you just how high above the desert floor you really are. This is desert mountain biking at its finest, and without question, one of the most iconic MTB trails near Las Vegas.
But the adventure didn’t stop there. To add even more downhill flavor to the day, I also dropped in from the top of Goat Roper, another classic Red Rock trail known for its raw terrain, technical challenges, and rugged desert character. Unfortunately, that’s where things went sideways—in the best “mountain biking story” way possible. A catastrophic derailleur failure left me with no pedaling ability for the rest of the day, turning what should have been a smooth cruise into a full-commitment survival ride.
With no gears and no easy way out, the return run down Flow Job became even more intense—fast lines, smart braking, and pure focus as I navigated exposed sections relying entirely on gravity and control. Sometimes the trail gives you perfection… and sometimes it gives you a lesson. Either way, Red Rock delivered.
By the end of the ride, the numbers told the story: 13.7 total miles and 2,049 feet of elevation gain, all wrapped into one unforgettable day of Las Vegas mountain biking. From epic desert views to high-speed flow, technical descents, and mechanical chaos, this ride had it all.
