Uganda is accelerating efforts to modernise its coffee sector, with 60 percent of farmers already mapped and the remaining 40 percent set for completion by April, ahead of the December 2026 deadline. A new digital traceability system will allow buyers to purchase coffee via an app, cutting out middlemen and improving efficiency. The country produced 7.77 million 60-kilogram bags worth US$2.2 billion last year, but sector leaders say future growth will hinge on improved traceability, compliance with new EU regulations, and stronger domestic consumption. MAAIF’s Dr Gerald Kyalo says Uganda is ready to comply with the EU Deforestation Regulation, while also targeting new markets in China and North Africa.
