গোপালগঞ্জ-১ আসনটি স্বাধীনতার পর থেকেই ছিল আওয়ামী লীগের দখলে। তবে পট পরিবর্তনের পর তা নিজেদের দখলে নিতে মরিয়া বিএনপি, জামায়াতসহ একাধিক দল ও স্বতন্ত্র মিলে ১০ প্রার্থী। দীর্ঘদিন পর আসনটিতে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতাপূর্ণ নির্বাচনের আশা করছেন সাধারণ ভোটাররা।

The Gopalganj-1 constituency has been in the hands of the Awami League since independence. However, after the change of the situation, several parties including BNP, Jamaat and independents are desperate to take it over. The general voters are hoping for a competitive election in the constituency after a long time.
