Local champion trainer, Jason DaCosta earned a one-two finish at the Mahoning Valley race track in the United States on Friday, January 2, 2026.
DaCosta’s charge Gallant Groom with Fernando Salazar Becerra was an easy winner of race two over six furlongs on the Mahoning card. Finishing second was another DaCosta runner, Suzie Q’s Sister with Chelsey Keiser in the saddle.
The post-race report reads as follows: “GALLANT GROOM got crowded a bit leaving the start then was caught in traffic in the early stages, advanced into the turn, angled five wide to upper stretch and was full of run to the furlong grounds, took command past mid-stretch, drew off into the final furlong and was hand ridden to the wire for a good debut win.
