The Future of Racing is 3D Printing.

Описание: Is additive manufacturing quietly powering the future of motorsports? In this episode, Cole and Matt break down how high-performance 3D printing is already transforming racing behind the scenes—from rapid prototyping of under-hood components to full-blown metal 3D printed turbos. It’s not science fiction. It’s happening right now.

We printed a full-scale bell housing for a custom transmission build by Mike Burroughs at StanceWorks using carbon fiber nylon. Why? Because it’s fast, accurate, and saves thousands in cost and weeks of wait time. Instead of gambling on fitment from a one-off part made overseas, Mike had us print the part locally to test fitment before pulling the trigger on machining. Hours instead of months—and dollars instead of thousands.

But this goes beyond fit checks.

We’re talking about real, functional components being used on-track. With thermoplastics like ULTEM 1010 and PEKK, race teams can now produce under-hood parts that are pressure-resistant, heat-resistant, and chemically resilient. These are materials with glass transition temperatures over 230°C—able to survive in the harshest environments of racing without melting, warping, or cracking. These aren’t toys. They’re legit functional parts.

The craziest part? This isn’t the “future” of motorsports—this is the present.

We’ve heard from insiders across the industry: OEM teams are using additive manufacturing in ways they won’t talk about publicly. Why? Because it’s a massive technical advantage. From F1 teams like McLaren and Alpine to companies like Czinger (yes, the ones 3D printing full car frames), advanced 3D printing has become part of the core toolkit for design iteration, lightweighting, and parts consolidation.

In this video, we talk:

• Why CF Nylon and high-temp thermoplastics are changing the game
• Real-world examples from F1, WEC, etc.
• How teams are bringing machines like the 22 IDEX to the track for real-time iteration
• The wild future (and present) of metal 3D printed turbos and engine components
• What it means for grassroots builders, tuners, and motorsport fabricators

From generative designs and integrated calipers to rapid-turnover body kits and custom clips for obscure interior panels—3D printing lets you build smarter, lighter, and cheaper. You can CAD, print, fit, and race without ever calling a machine shop. That’s real power.

This isn’t about hype. It’s about using the tools that already exist to save time, reduce failure, and make cooler stuff.
