Join me as I explore Nebraska Highway 2 through the remote and fascinating northwestern part of the state, traveling through small towns, former railroad communities, abandoned places, and wide-open Nebraska landscapes. Starting near the Nebraska–South Dakota border, we visit Crawford and learn about its railroad and Old West history, explore the tiny community of Belmont and its historic railroad tunnel, wander through the nearly forgotten town of Marsland, and visit Hemingford and Berea before making our way to Alliance. Along the way, we uncover the stories of communities that grew up around railroads and agriculture, explore an old cemetery, and stop at one of Nebraska’s most unusual attractions—Carhenge, a Stonehenge replica built from vintage automobiles. This is just the beginning of our journey along Highway 2, with plenty more forgotten places and small-town history still ahead.
