Hey there!

Here is another special remix, just for you. This one is an arrangement of "Thugly's Highrise" from Donkey Kong: Country Returns, for mixed ensemble. It features classical orchestra instruments alongside a driving drove of African drums.

We wanted to write an arrangement that was sort of a sequel to "Monkey Business," another percussive remix that did quite well on our channel, so we decided to do this! Though the 2 pieces have very different feels, they both embody the spirit of modern music and the tradition of African drumming.

Our musical journey begins with only a few instruments, lost echoes scattered throughout. As the song grows in power and intensity, the echoes grow and become one large, booming voice. With each iteration of the theme, another instrument is added to the fold, multiplying the strength and feeling of the piece, eventually ending in a mass fadeout, with the original array of instruments lasting the test of time.

As with all of our remixes, we wanted this one to tell a story, the story of Donkey Kong's encounter with Thugly. At this point in the game (I think it is about the halfway point), DK and Diddy have plowed through several members of the evil Tiki Tak tribe, a band of sentient musical instruments said to have the hypnotic power to subdue and possess any being or beast, mindless or otherwise. This particular Tiki Tak, Xylobone, chooses Thugly, a rather absentminded creature, as their victim. Enraged by their sudden possession, Thugly goes on a rampage, ramming and thrashing everything and everyone in sight. It is up to the DK Crew to put a stop to Thugly's temper tantrums, and knock Xylobone out of commission once and for all!
