The Scriptures talk about God as Father much more in the New Testament than in the Old Testament, where God is more often seen as the King, as the ruler, as the Lord, as Yahweh, the Great I Am because we know about God through his Son. If I'm a soccer dad and I see another soccer parent at the soccer match with my child, I don't think of them necessarily as having their own name; that's Jimmy's mom, or, you know, Karen's dad, not their own name because I know them through their child. We know God through Jesus Christ his Son, and this is why that's so much more a prominent theme in the New Testament. In the Old Testament it shows up, sometimes, but, you know, it's kind of like the name is there without really understanding why would we even call God "Father." God is our Father. Again, when we used these biblical metaphors, they're always reversed. My father is a father to the extent that he's like God and to the extent that he really loves me, that I can ask him whatever I want, and the answer will take into consideration my real needs and not just the things that I desire. So, the Scriptures call God Father because he is Father, but they really talk about him as Father in large part because we are introduced through his Son.
