4498 makes Mainline debut while 46115 tackles a troubled 'CME' 21/5/2022

Описание: A busy Saturday in the northwest of England this weekend, with two steam tours out and about on the mainline network.

After debuting at the SVR Spring Gala last month, A4 4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley' made it's mainline return this month hauling an A4 trust members special as it's first duty. This would also be one of it's last appearances in wartime Black livery before returning to it’s iconic BR Express Blue. The tour ran from Crewe to Carlisle and back, running outward via the Settle & Carlisle line and returning via Shap.

Meanwhile, RTC's popular 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' made an appearance this weekend with 46115 'Scots Guardsman' put in charge for the usual run from Carnforth to Carlisle and return over the S&C. However, all was not going to run as planned...

We first take a look at the A4s trip, capturing it at Acton Bridge and Clitheroe, before moving to the S&C at Lazonby. The return leg was seen at Plumpton before digging into the climb to Shap. Secondly was the Scots run. With a delayed departure from Carnforth, the train saw the addition of 86259 on the back to make up time, as well as make shunting easier at Carlisle. After later departing Carlisle 90 mins late due to an AWS failure, the Scot is seen at Wharton Lane and Langho making up for lost time on the grades.

We conclude what was a mixed yet fantastic day at Atherstone, with 86259 clawing back the minutes as it leads the CME back towards Euston. Hope you enjoy!
