On August 26, the Indian Navy will simultaneously commission INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri—advanced stealth frigates from separate shipyards—marking a first in naval history. Part of the Project-17A Nilgiri-class, they feature BrahMos and Barak-8 missiles, MF-STAR radar, and enhanced stealth design. Their induction highlights India’s growing shipbuilding capacity and self-reliance. Assigned to the Eastern Naval Command, the frigates bolster maritime strength in the Indo-Pacific, supporting the Navy’s goal of operating 200 vessels by 2030.
