A Chettinad Inspired House with A Colonial Twist (Home Tour).

Описание: Located in the quaint village of Meivazhi Salai, Sittannavasal near Pudukkottai, this house was conceived as a Paati-Veedu or Grandmother’s House. The typical layout of a Karaikudi house was infused with elements inspired by colonial design style in this single storied house.

A grand walkway leads to a huge portico surrounded by a verandah. Elements like stone columns, old windows, stained glasses, and intricate cement artwork is seen on the façade and one is greeted to the interiors of the house by a 100-year-old Chennai style door.

There is a huge courtyard inside surrounded by a verandah on all sides. The open to sky courtyard boasts a Spanish inspired water fountain which is the focal point of the house. Besides, a swing, old Chettinad and Anglo-Indian inspired furniture pieces and Athungudi inspired tiles complete the interior spaces of the house.

The use of vintage elements, fusion of two styles, detailed cement artworks, and reuse of old doors and windows are some key highlights of the project. The designers walk around the house giving an insight into how they cohesively used two distinct styles while meeting all the requirements of the clients.
