#DiploTrees · This Camphor Tree, also known as Cinnamomum camphora, was planted in Singapore by former Japanese Prime Minister Nakasone Yasuhiro in May 1983 as a living symbol of the friendship between the peoples of Japan and Singapore. It is now located in the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Singapore and Japan marked the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries last year. Did you know that a merlion statue stands in the city of Rikuzentakata in Iwate Prefecture? The statue was unveiled in front of the Singapore Community Hall last year, to commemorate Singapore’s continued support of the city following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. 🇸🇬🇯🇵
