Directed and written by Nico Mastorakis (who also appears in the film), this notoriously offensive low-budget exploitation film stars Elizabeth Spader, Gerard Gonalons, Jane Lyle, Jannice McConnell, Jeremy Rousseau, Mike Murtagh, Bob Behling (1944-1977), Jessica Dublin (1918-2012), and Nikos Tsachiridis (1933-2015). Known under several titles such as 'A Craving for Lust, 'Cruel Destination, 'Devils in Mykonos, and 'Island of Perversion, this Greek production (filmed in English with American and British leads) wallows in an endless series of inventively repellent acts of degradation. Director Mastorakis, who was a major player in Greek television, became inspired to make the film after noticing the financial success Tobe Hooper had with 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The success of the film (sales-wise) allowed Mastorakis to hone his craft, and one of the more notable films he made was 'The Wind (1986), which starred Meg Foster and Wings Hauser. Bob Behling, Jane Lyle, and Jessica Dublin had previously worked together (alongside Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasance) on the Greek / British co-production 'Land of the Minotaur, released earlier the same year.
The film follows sibling lovers Christopher (Bob Behling) and Celia Lambert (Jane Lyle) who arrive from London to the Greek island of Mykonos. Disgusted by what he perceives to be rampant immorality among the locals, Christopher embarks on a crusade to purge the island of its perversions, and Celia is only too happy to lend a hand. Between them and the locals, an impressive rap sheet of violence and depravity soon adds up, from buggery to bestiality and much more besides. Mastorakis leaves no stone unturned. After their numerous acts of humiliation, rape and murder, Christopher and Celia are forced to flee from the authorities. An encounter with a mute shepherd (Nikos Tsachiridis) not only changes their circumstances drastically, but also sheds light on the origins of their ruthless sadism.
The film features a lush folk-infused score (ending with an elaborate piece of highly effective experimental music) adding a curious juxtaposition to the acts of degradation enacted onscreen. All tracks were written by Nico Mastorakis and Nikos Lavranos whilst vocals are performed by Dakis (1943-2022) and Milli Karali. Greek pop singer Dakis had a remarkable career recording dozens of albums and singles, and had also collaborated with top international performers such as the Rolling Stones, Milva, and Demis Roussos among others. Singer Milli Karali achieved success during the 1970's and 1980's recording numerous albums and hit singles that captured the essence of traditional Greek music. Nikos Lavranos also composed the music for Mastorakis' film 'Death Has Blue Eyes (1976) and the Greek drama film 'Clumsy Lover (1984).
