In the latest episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, we revisit the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP — Tata Motors’ first driver’s cars. The JTP project was aimed to be India’s answer to the GTI craze, and the story began in 2018 with the formation of JTSV, a joint venture between Tata Motors and Coimbatore-based Jayem Auto.
The idea was simple yet exciting — take Tata’s value-for-money cars and transform them into performance-oriented machines for enthusiasts, using Jayem Auto’s motorsport expertise. The JTP twins got turbo-petrol engines, sportier suspension, sharper steering and bigger wheels, making them cars which stood out and delivered on the Thrill of Driving. Sadly, within just two years, the JTP project was shelved.
This episode of Gone But Not Forgotten is a throwback to the JTP story that had so much potential, which was left unrealised.
