In this episode of Visa2Vlog, we explore one of the most unique experiences in South India – night camping at Kolukkumalai, the world’s highest organic tea plantation located on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala near Munnar.

After leaving Thekkady on Day 5 of our journey, we head towards the beautiful mountains of Kolukkumalai. At an altitude of around 8000 feet, this place is famous for its breathtaking tea gardens, peaceful environment, and one of the most beautiful sunrise views in India.

The Kolukkumalai Tea Estate dates back to the 1930s, when British planters started tea cultivation here. Even today, tea is processed using the traditional orthodox method, making it one of the rare tea estates in India preserving heritage tea processing techniques.

But the real adventure begins with the camping experience.
We stayed overnight at a camp in the middle of tea plantations where we enjoyed:

✔ Night camping in the mountains
✔ Bonfire under the stars
✔ Self cooking experience in nature
✔ Thrilling off-road jeep safari
✔ Magical sunrise above the clouds

The most exciting part is the early morning sunrise jeep ride. Private cars are not allowed on this rough mountain trail, so the only way to reach the sunrise point is by a special off-road jeep.

At around 4:30 AM, we started our jeep safari through rocky mountain tracks and narrow paths between tea plantations. After a thrilling ride of about 30 minutes, we reached the viewpoint where we witnessed a spectacular sunrise above the clouds.

Watching the sun rise over endless tea plantations while clouds float below the mountains is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
