Topics covered in this Electrostatics (Class 12) by ABJ sir IITD with timestamp:-
00:00 - 05:04 Electrostatics Problem 1: Based on the concept of earthing. In this problem, We have a conducting sphere of radius R, that is connected to the earth with a conducting wire, and there is charge Q at some distance x that is projected towards the sphere with the velocity v. So we have to find the value of current in the wire connecting sphere and the earth.
05:05 - 12:53 Charge distribution and induction due to cavity: ABJ sir explains this case with the help of an example. To solve such a problem Gaussian surface concept and Gauss law will be helpful.
12:53 - 19:06 Example of a conductor with cavity: In this example, there is a spherical cavity of radius R in a metal with charge Q. With the help of this example, ABJ sir explains distribution of charge on the surface of metal of arbitrary shape.
19:15 - 22:31 Electrostatics Problem 2: Based on the charge distribution due to cavity inside the conductor. In this problem, we have a metallic sphere with concentric cavity, and there is a charge q at the center. So we have to discuss the charge distribution on conductors in different cases.
22:55 - 30:35 Important points: Cavity in conductors -
1. Charge distribution on the conductor will be uniform distribution, if both conductor & cavity is of uniform shape.
2. Charge distribution on the conductor will be non uniform for inside distribution & uniform distribution for outer surface, if the shape of cavity is arbitrary and shape of conductor is uniform.
3. Charge distribution on the conductor will be non uniform for both inside and outside surface, if the shape of cavity & conductor is arbitrary.
30:57 - 40:06 Charge distribution on inner & outer surface of concentric Metallic shells: ABJ sir explains the charge distribution on surfaces of metallic spheres and direction of electric field at the surface, that is normal to the surface.
40:19 - 43:57 Electrostatics Problem 3: Based on the concept of charge distribution. In this problem, we have three concentric shells of radius R, 2R and 3R with charge Q, -Q and 2Q respectively, and there is a +Q charge at the center. We have to find charge on each surface of the shell.
44:10 - 57:15 Electrostatics Shielding: Electrostatic shielding is a method of shielding or protecting a particular region or space or any sensitive building/instrument from the effect of the external field produced by an electric charge.
57:38 - 01:05:14 Electrostatics Problem 4: In this problem, We have a metallic sphere of radius R with concentric cavity of radius r. This metallic sphere has charge +Q. There is a +q charge at a distance x from the center inside the cavity. So we have to find the value of net electric field at any point A at the distance y from the center outside the sphere , and electric field at same point due to charge q and charge induced on the inner sphere & outer sphere.
01:05:34 - 01:13:21 Electrostatics Problem 5: Based on the concept of shielding effect. In this problem, We have a metallic sphere of radius R2 with spherical concentric cavity of radius R1. This metallic sphere has charge +Q. There is a q charge at a some distance from the center inside the cavity. So we have to find the electric potential at different points outside the sphere, at the center & at a point on the metallic surface.
01:14:10 - 01:20:46 Electrostatics Problem 6: Based on the concept of shielding effect. In this problem, We have a metallic sphere of radius R2 with spherical concentric cavity of radius R1. We have to find the work done by the external agent to bring a charge +Q from the infinity to the center of the sphere. To solve this problem, ABJ sir find the difference of electric potential energy of the system in both cases.
