Ingredients
1 pound broccoli (we purchased the microwavable bagged broccoli for this cook!)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 teaspoons cornstarch (divided)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 pound flank steak
1/3 cup beef or chicken broth (stock)
1/4 cup oyster sauce
Approx. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for the griddle top)
2 cloves garlic, minced
(Side dish - we prepared 2 cups of jasmine rice to serve with our Beef and Broccoli).
Directions
Microwave the broccoli about 1 to 2 minutes (if you do not have the microwavable bag, placed broccoli in a microwave safe bowl, covering with a vented lid, or with plastic wrap, poking holes to allow steam to escape).
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, 1 teaspoon cornstarch and baking soda to create marinade.
Slice the beef against the grain into thin strips. Add this to your marinade. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes (can even be kept in the refrigerator overnight).
In a separate small bowl, stir together the beef broth, oyster sauce and remaining 1 teaspoon cornstarch until the cornstarch is fully dissolved.
Heat the griddle on med/high heat and add the oil (griddle surface was approx. 580-590 degrees). When griddle is hot (you'll see wisps of white smoke), toss the garlic onto the griddle and begin cooking - only for a short time (approx. 20 seconds). Toss on the marinated beef. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, continually moving the beef so it browns on all sides but is still rare. Once the beef is seared, add the broccoli and cook for an additional minute. Stir in the sauce while constantly stirring/mixing the beef and broccoli. Once the sauce has turned into a nice thick gravy (approx. 1 minute), serve pull off the griddle and serve! We served ours over jasmine rice (yum!).
