On 6 February 1960, ITN's Neville Clarke spoke to Margaret Thatcher MP, the day after the MP made her maiden speech in the House of Commons. The speech was, in Clarke's words, met with "universal praise" and immediately raised the profile of the 34-year-old mother of two. Sat with her children, 6-year-old Carol Thatcher and her twin brother Mark, Mrs Thatcher spoke about the daunting task of addressing the Commons chamber, and how she managed to balance the roles of mother and member of parliament.
8 April 2023 marks ten years since the death of Margaret Thatcher. Debate surrounding the legacy of Britain's first female prime minister is as heated today as when Mrs Thatcher sat in 10 Downing Street.
