The front camera heater in the BMW i3 tends to fail quite often. This fix will save you from having to replace the entire front windshield, saving both time and money.

A faulty heater does not trigger a warning message in the car. You can check if yours is malfunctioning by feeling whether the heated area gets warm. If your camera fogs up, causing the adaptive cruise control to stop working or frequently drop out while driving, the heater may be defective. In some cases, you might also see a notification suggesting that the camera area needs cleaning.

To confirm if the heater is broken, you can open the housing behind the rearview mirror and measure the voltage on the two contact pads on the windshield. If you measure 12V but the area does not heat up, your heater has failed and should be replaced.
