IF you go down in the woods today, you never know what you’ll find.
That’s certainly the case on this riverside ramble at Hartburn, near Morpeth.
Come with us on one of Northumberland’s most delightful short walks.
You could be following in the footsteps of those who travelled The Devil’s Causeway, a Roman road which ran from Corbridge to Berwick.
Along the way there’s an amazing bathing changing room built into a cliffside by a village vicar in 1760. It has Grade II Listed status.
Go a little further and you might discover a deep pool where a local baker is said to have hidden a treasure chest.
All this, and jolly fine walk too!
Hartburn Glebe, which is looked after by The Woodland Trust, is just outside Hartburn village, six miles West of Morpeth.
