From a Book of Days compiled by Robert Chambers in 1869. Tune and words slightly adapted - the original tune didn't fit the words at the end of each line, and the last verse has been modernised.
In the last line in verses 1,2 and 3 "baziers" is a Lancashire name for the plant auricularia (primulas), possibly a corruption of "base ears" derived from the shape of the leaves.
The song is quite short, so we felt the need to append a tune. Looking for a suitable waltz or anything else in matching 3/4 time we found "Lovely Nancy" and thought it fitted perfectly, though this improvised arrangement is somewhat under-rehearsed.
Mary Humphreys: vocals and English concertina
Anahata: Anglo concertina
(mics: 2xR-10 on Anglo, Schoeps on EC, Røde NT2A on vocal)
