Algonquin Outfitters celebrates 60 years with almost $3,000 in contest prizes


Algonquin Outfitters (AO) has a simple goal: to get people outside. The company grew from a young boy’s passion for the outdoors and for 60 years they have never wavered from their focus on authentic outdoor adventure.


The moment Bill Swift Sr. arrived at Camp Pathfinder, he fell in love with Algonquin Park. That experience set roots for what would become a beloved outdoor retailer and outfitter serving people from around the world.


From its humble beginnings as a seasonal outfitter at Oxtongue Lake, just west of Algonquin Park, AO is now a three-generation, family-run retail and outfitting operation with 12 locations in and around Algonquin Park, Haliburton Highlands, and Muskoka. They launched an online store last year and this season expanded four locations—Bracebridge, Haliburton, Minden, and Port Carling.


Today, under the guidance of Rich and Sue Swift, Algonquin Outfitters continues to embrace its roots, providing a range of both summer and winter outdoor experiences along with the gear to get outside and have fun.

From now through the end of November, AO is hosting a contest featuring a fun, online historical quiz with the chance to win exciting prizes like a $1,000 AO Gift Card and an Ultimate Canoe Trip Package worth more than $900.


All of the answers to the 30-question quiz can be found at algonquinoutfitters.com. Answers to questions like: Who has been the Brent store’s legendary manager for almost 40 years? Or what is the name of the canoe route created in memory of Bill Swift Sr. that links four AO stores in Algonquin Park? Or how many years was AO a seasonal business that shut down in winter months?


Every correct answer earns an entry into the contest. And once you’ve completed the quiz, snap some selfies at any Algonquin Outfitters—up to seven at each location—to increase your chances of winning. That’s up to 84 bonus entries!


The contest ends November 30, 2021. Winners will be selected by random draw for one of five prizes:
