Here's the problem: The average motorist is involved in a collision only once every 7 years. This means that they cannot begin to understand the complexities involved in operating a towing business. Couple that with the fact that most motor clubs mislead their customers (the motorists) into believing that, should they be involved in an accident requiring recovery, they will be completely covered.
Here are three tips you can use to avoid accepting motor club rates when called to an accident by law enforcement.
1. Suggest that they use Automobile Insurance rather than roadside assistance.
2. Use AAA's Accident Claim Form (before doing this you must call AAA to ensure that the customer is covered for this type of claim)
3. Explain that you were called there by Law Enforcement and that, if they wanted to use roadside assistance, they would need to have been called prior to your arrival.

These are not completely bullet-proof suggestions but they will help you if you practice them so that the next time you're flashed that little gold card you'll know what to do.
