World Burn- A Gravity Falls Animatic

Описание: This took forever… So this animatic is basically summed up as empowerment in a character who once pinned their worth on pleasing someone else. After the interaction at the very end of ATOTS, Stan basically decided he was done caring what Ford thought, and that he was going to prove he was just as good AS his twin, and WITHOUT him, leading to the rivalry we saw in the following episodes. He kinda just gave up and decided Ford made this mess, he can deal with it himself. He’s ready to watch the way things were, his world burn, and he won’t look back. But it got to a point Stan couldn’t stand by, and in the end Stan finally proved he was a hero, not because he owed anything to Ford, but because it’s what he felt was right. It’s in a way simultaneously this moment of empowerment, and him giving into this idea he’s the disposable one and sacrificing himself. In the end it led to both himself and Ford accepting his worth, even if it was probably a hard adjustment for Stan, which he most likely does still struggle with.

I’m kinda leaning into the idea of using villain songs for the Stans, because in a way they are somewhat both antiheroes and/or antivillains in their own right. Stan has a good heart deep down and would do anything for his family, but isn’t afraid to go to super shady lengths to do what he feels is best. His past life of just scraping by, resorting to crime and deceit has instilled him with greed, anger, pessimism, gruffness, meanness, and violence. He started off trusting, optimistic and vulnerable, but was swiftly taught to keep his heart hidden. The mischievous tendencies from his childhood evolved into bad habits altogether. He is overall a good person, and loving and protective head of the family, but he isn’t above vengeful actions and spite. He will go to extreme lengths to prove his worth and that he’s just as good as Ford (even if deep down he doesn’t truly believe it himself), even to the point of it being detrimental to himself and people around him. He’s flawed, but those flaws stem greatly from extreme trauma and by how much he cares, crushed by the constant pressure to be good enough to be kept around. To earn love he was taught from an early age didn’t come free, like so many other things in life. And he’s not afraid to take things he can’t afford by force. To summarize, mean exterior, well meaning interior. Ford on the other hand is quite the opposite, outwardly a chosen hero, the perfect golden child, unique, special, smart and proud. But on the inside he’s insecure and unafraid to take it out on anyone who’s on the wrong side of his wrath. He will singlehandedly topple anyone’s (even the person closest to him) life without hesitation if he thinks even for a moment they’re a threat to his shallow ego. Ultimately his selfish ambition is his downfall. He had his heart so set on being the hero that nobody else could take the spotlight from that he didn’t realize he was CREATING half his problems, and that the people he was pushing away were just trying to help him. His pride hurt his own prospects, and he refused to admit that until it was to late. Until he finally lost someone to his foolishness. By the end of the series he’s learned his lesson, but not before people got seriously hurt. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, disguised so well not even he could see past it. His cruelty ultimately stemmed from insecurity from being different and paranoia. His traumatic experience with bill only furthering his belief in his mantra: Trust No One. Ultimately they were both victims of circumstances, corrupted by different traumas, and even mental illnesses. But ultimately Ford was the one who fueled the cycle of pain and solitude between the brothers, letting Stan take the blame. It’s one of the most profound tragedies I think I’ve ever seen in any form of animated media, let alone a “kids show”. My point is they both have a dark side to be explored to better understand their character. That duality of two twins, one being an antihero and the other an antivillain, opposites in every way, is fascinating from a writing standpoint, and deserves recognition.
