These missions require groundbreaking developments in optics, detector technology, and data science – technologies whose impact extends far beyond astronomy.

The Queen's Lecture has a long tradition. It was initiated as a gift from Great Britain to Berlin to mark the occasion of a visit to the city by Queen Elizabeth II on 27 May 1965. Adam Amara's lecture marks the 60th anniversary of the series. Since 1997, the Queen's Lecture has been held in cooperation with the British Embassy and the British Council Germany.
