Описание: A personal mini vlog shot during my trip across Punjab in January 2026 as part of my job to produce feature stories. We had about one hour, waiting for permissions to shoot at Sangrur's War Heroes Stadium nearby.

I figured out we were just outside the historical 'Banasar Bagh' in its shared parking space with the stadium. I instantly decided to take a stroll, taking along my action camera, and this followed.

This is my first attempt at doing a voiceover in Punjabi and also featuring in a video like this.

Historical Context:

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਿਤ ਬਨਾਸਰ ਬਾਗ਼ ਇੱਕ ਐਸੀ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜਸੀ ਅਤੀਤ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ।

‘ਬਨਾਸਰ’ ਨਾਮ ਦੋ ਸਧਾਰਣ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ — ‘ਬਨ’ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਦਰੱਖ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ‘ਸਰ’ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸਰੋਵਰ। ਅੱਜ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਬਾਗ਼ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਸੋਚ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੀ — ਇੱਕ ਐਸੀ ਯੋਜਨਾਬੱਧ ਥਾਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਸਤੂਕਲਾ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਬਨਾਸਰ ਬਾਗ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਦੌਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀਹਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਬਾਗ਼ ਰਾਜ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਲਈ ਆਰਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ — ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਕੂਨ ਲਈ ਵੀ। ਬਾਗ਼ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਫ਼ਸੀਲਾਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਸੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।

In Punjab’s historic city of Sangrur, , you’ll find Banasar Bagh — a place that quietly reflects the region’s royal past.

The name Banasar comes from two simple words: “Ban,” meaning trees, and “Sar,” meaning a water tank. The sarovar is not here anymore, but the idea behind the garden was clear — a carefully planned space where nature and architecture came together in perfect balance.

Banasar Bagh is commonly linked with the period of Raja Ranbir Singh, when the garden was developed in the early 1900s. It was created as a leisure space for the royal family, designed not just for beauty, but also for comfort and relaxation. The garden was surrounded by strong ramparts and included elegant structures that added to its royal character.

The most eye-catching structure here is the Marble Baradari. Interestingly, this Baradari is inspired by a similar structure in Dinanagar, from the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

The connection goes beyond architecture — Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s mother Raj Kaur belonged to the royal family of Jind, showing how closely linked these Sikh-era states once were.

Today, Banasar Bagh is no longer a royal retreat, but a public garden — a calm green space where history, heritage, and everyday life blend seamlessly.
