Catharsis (Amy Cann)

Andy said he first heard "Catharsis" when on a trip to Ireland a few years ago. He mentioned the tune to me, saying how great of a tune it was and that I should learn it, thus leading me into researching it and eventually figuring it out on banjo. I believe Jim mentioned that his primary source was Lora (Red Desert Violin) for her breakdown of it while learning it on fiddle. And thus, the rest is history...

This tune was included on my first self-produced/recorded album, "The Mountain Staircase," as some of you may already be aware of:    • Catharsis  

Banjo tuning: gGDGBb (gCGCEb, capo 7, leave fifth string at G), or, for those with low-tuned banjos, you can play it in dGDGBb, an octave below what I'm playing and tuned to here, minus the difference in the fifth string pitch. I've also tried gDGBbD tuning (open G minor) and gDGCD (G modal), but it doesn't quite work as well as the open C minor tuning capoed up.
