January VHF Contest 2018 - From the Beach!
First time working portable QRP during an VHF contest. Also work with one of the homebrew antenna I built
When choosing a location to set up my portable station, automatically operators go to high points but I did the opposite. I chose the beach I fish during warmer month.
The place surprised me with extremely low noise floor and further more it approves this location has the clear advantage of working up and down the east coast!
I worked totally 22 contacts on 3 bands before the parking lot closed in 2 hours period. Which includes 9 grids on 144mhz, 4 grids on 432mhz, and 4 more on 50mhz, longest contact was made with monster station KA1ZE/3 (239.1 miles) second best was with N3HBX in FM19 (217.1 miles)
But most importantly I enjoyed the warmer weather fresh ocean breezy and had a lot of fun!
Rig: Yaesu ft-100
antenna: modified DK7ZB dual band beam (144/432), Par stressed 50mhz moxon,
feedline: LMR-240
Power source: 12V Lead acid deep cycle
