At the beginning of the Church, there is no official dress for the officials of the Church. Clerics such as Bishops and Priests probably wear a dress like anybody else. One thing is for sure, they differ in quality and cleanliness. Sacred Vestments in the celebration of the Liturgy developed as a particular dress for the clergy distinct from the ordinary and the so-called street dress. Vestments are used to show the authority and position of the person and to give distinction from ordinary citizens and street clothes.
