Common Kestrel Nesting on a Cliff in Czechia

Описание: 🐤 Young kestrels from Pálava 🐤

Have you ever seen photos or videos of common kestrels nesting in a flowerpot on someone’s balcony? Such scenes look a bit comical, but they’re not rare at all. Kestrels don’t worry much about picking the perfect spot to raise their young. They don’t build their own nests and usually lay their eggs in old nests of other birds (like magpies or crows), in tree hollows or sandpit walls, on building ledges, and similar places. But one of the most beautiful nesting sites they can choose are steep rock faces 🪺

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to observe and film nesting kestrels in a rocky recess in Pálava PLA. At times I was a bit worried about the chicks before they could fly, because the nest looked cramped and it seemed like they might tumble out at any moment. But everything turned out fine, and according to ornithologists’ reports, all three little ones safely left the nest in the end 🦅
