During a break, Krath's young cub approaches Maya and innocently asks if her scars mean she was "forged in battle" like Apex warriors. Maya reveals the truth: seven years ago, a reactor breach on colony ship Sentinel threatened 4,000 lives. With no time for safety protocols, Maya manually held superheated cooling valves for seven agonizing minutes, suffering catastrophic burns while saving everyone aboard. General Krath overhears the story and realizes humans don't bear scars from failure—they bear them from sacrifice. He publicly apologizes, acknowledging that Maya is a true warrior. The cub reverently touches Maya's scars and declares her "forge-born," transforming her injuries into a symbol of humanity's greatest strength: the willingness to burn so others might live.
