This video covers the way in from Taplejung: starting in the middle hills, the trek follows the Tamur river through rice and millet fields before entering narrow valleys with dense forests - and we then reach the alpine village of Wallung (aka Olung 3:06).

Moving up to Yangma (6:24), the scenery becomes more alpine, valleys open up and reveal high mountains rising above moraines and glaciers. Ancient trade routes are still being used today by yak caravans crossing the snow-bound passes above 5'000 m. We head further north to explore two passes to Tibet (11:15) which are rarely (if ever) visited by tourists and then head back down south over the Nango La (14:02) to Ghunsa, Kambachen (15:43) and Lhhonak (16:08) on the more established route to Kangchenjunga's north base camp near Pangpema (17:35). After climbing Drohmo Ri West (6'080m, 18:20), we head back to Taplejung.
