Join me on a thrilling birding adventure in Midland, Texas, where I had a lucky encounter with a Flammulated Owl! This tiny, elusive, nocturnal owl—known for its flame-like markings and preference for coniferous forests—was flushed right in my face in broad daylight, thanks to a squirrel’s miraculous escape from a Cooper’s Hawk! I never would’ve spotted it otherwise, as its excellent camouflage makes it nearly impossible to see.
