On 17th July 2025, BackChat was presented LIVE from the inaugural Invest Zambia International Conference at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
President Hichilema’s government has set ambitious targets to produce 3 million tonnes of copper per year by the 2030s. Meanwhile, global demand for the metal is expected to hit 50 million tonnes by 2050, helping to create electric vehicles and renewable energy projects around the world – including an increasing number in Zambia itself.
So how can Zambia position itself to create a virtuous circle of critical minerals production that benefits both its people and the planet? And how can efforts to diversify the Zambian energy sector – both in financing and power sources – benefit this process?
