This concert was recorded on May 5, 2022 in Meymandi Concert Hall at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh NC.
Shirley Caesar is widely recognized as the “Queen of Gospel Music.” She has won 11 Grammy Awards, has sung for Presidents and foreign dignitaries and is in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. In 1999 she was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship, which is the federal government’s highest honor for folk and traditional arts.
PineCone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, was incorporated as a 501c3 nonprofit by a group of friends in 1984 to preserve, present and promote traditional folk music and dance in North Carolina. It is now a Resident Company at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh and producer of the festival IBMA Bluegrass Live! powered by PNC. The festival is one of Raleigh’s signature events drawing 200,000+ people downtown and generating an annual direct economic impact of $18-million for Wake County.
