This video captures the final and most dramatic leg of the day: the Hungry Hippo fairing’s journey from the North Dock across the NASA Wallops Island Causeway and into the Rocket Lab AIC.
As the sun began to set, the massive fairing—now mounted on the transport trailer—rolled down the road and across the causeway. The lighting was incredible, and seeing something this large moving through the island was unforgettable.
The convoy was pulled and pushed by a Kenworth triple-axle truck, which is a large vehicle on its own—yet it still looked small compared to the fairing. The video ends with the fairing being carefully backed into the Rocket Lab AIC grounds, where it finally came to rest.
It was a long day from start to finish, but absolutely worth it to witness and document every step of this journey.
