D&SNGRR “Big K’s” Doubleheader, 12/22/20

Описание: It’s December of 2020, and the D&SNGRR is in full swing running it’s normal Polar Express events and the Cascade Canyon Express excursions. With COVID-19 restrictions still tight in Colorado, the Cascade Canyon Express has required more cars than usual to be able to satisfy social distancing requirements. Because of this, the D&SNGRR opted to run a 15 car consist for the rest of the 2020 season.
K-37 #493, the workhorse of the 2020 summer season, continues her stint of being “on the point” of longer daily train service, while K-36 #482 and her sister #481 have been sharing the duties on the Polar Express train.
Because of the longer trains to Cascade, it was necessary to add a “helper” locomotive to run between Hermosa and Rockwood, Colorado; the steepest and most continuous grade on the route to Cascade Canyon.
#482 jaunts out of Durango on a brisk morning to Hermosa, then meets with train #261, the “Cascade Canyon Express,” to assist the train to Rockwood. Once at Rockwood, #482 is cut off the train and put over to the wye track to allow #493 to lift her train out to Cascade Canyon. After, #482 turns on the wye and returns to Durango for servicing.
