The verses observe the current conditions: the legends we make of ourselves in the information age, the thieves stealing the show, the ways we weaponize facts to destroy rather than understand. The chorus echoes the seductive simplicity of battle lines drawn sharp and clean.
But it’s the bridge that I couldn’t get right for so long that emotes rather than observes. “I cannot seem to satisfy the truth,” it admits, because for me personally, my discomfort is not about left or right. It’s about recognizing we’re all still building on foundations laid millennia ago, that the problems we see now will simply reoccur through repetitive and predictable cycles once we beat them into temporary submission, simply due to the underlying structure of civilization itself.
What are we actually fighting for when that structure, the hierarchy, the drive to control nature, keeps leading us back to the same battles?
This song doesn’t care what side you’re on. It’s about power, regardless of ideology.
It’s about personal power, collective power, and structural power. What kinds can you access? What kinds can you contribute to or influence? How idealistic do you wanna get about your vision for the world? And can you really stand behind ANY argument at all if you can’t answer those questions for yourself? Are you arguing to just change what’s right in front of us long enough to take a breather or do we want something more lasting? If we do want something more lasting but we know we can't make it happen overnight, what’s the long game? What’s the slow burn plan to move towards it? How much solidarity among the common people would it take to go up against the power structure?
The bridge doesn’t have answers. It just holds space for the truth I can’t satisfy: that we started building this trap eons ago, and fighting within its walls will never set us free.
