Cherry Blossom Festival 2025 expected to draw over 50,000 tourists, says CM

Описание: Shillong is gearing up for the Cherry Blossom Festival 2025, with the Meghalaya government expecting over 50,000 overnight tourists, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced on Thursday.

The festival, which attracts large day crowds as well, will feature global and local performers, including The Script, Jason Derulo, Nora Fatehi, Aqua, Tyga, and world-renowned DJ Diplo. A special tribute to legendary singer Zubeen Garg will also take place.

Local talents such as Meba, Ophelia, and Dappest X ADL, alongside national acts, will perform across multiple venues including the main stadium, Polo Ground, and MFA Ground.

The event will host cultural activities like the Mr and Miss Cherry Blossom competition, cosplay, and cherry blossom arm wrestling. Sangma acknowledged longstanding traffic congestion issues in Shillong and detailed new regulated parking zones, no-traffic areas, and upcoming parking facilities to ease the situation.

Highlighting the festival’s economic impact, Sangma said last year’s ₹20 crore investment generated nearly ₹130 crore in returns, boosting tourism and local livelihoods. He emphasised that such events enhance Meghalaya’s visibility, encourage broader tourism, and contribute to sustained economic growth.
