Here’s how to do it:
• Make sure your key is in the ‘OFF’ position before starting.
• Push and keep down the trip odometer button located on the left side of the dashboard cluster instruments.
• Twist the key once to position one marked “ACC” while holding the button down.
• Ensure you do not turn the key to position two. If you accidentally do, withdraw the key from its slot and begin the process.
• Continue maintaining pressure on the odometer button for approximately five seconds until the words “OIL SERVICE,” “INSPECTION,” with “RESET,” or “RE” appear on the display screen.
• Remove your finger from the odometer button.
• Push and hold down the odometer button again until you notice the word “RESET” flashing on the display screen.
• Release the odometer button as the display continues to flash.
• Press the trip odometer button quickly as the display flashes to allow the service interval to reset.
• A new interval will show on the screen before the “END SIA” displays.
You can only reset the service light after your car has used up 2.5 gallons of fuel. This resetting method works for any BMW E46 models manufactured from 1999 to later years.
