Mike brewed a NEIPA focusing on a three hop blend to try and emphasize limey flavor profiles.
This beer had a simple bittering charge of Nugget for 60 minutes because I like even my NEIPA to have some sort of 60minute bittering charge. I think it really helps balance/ground the beer as an IPA.
The hopping regime was very simple 3 ounce whirlpool and 3 ounce dry hop. No fermentation hops or other boil hops. The hop were added as a blend and each 3 ounce charge was 1 ounce each of Wakatu, Cashmere and Sabro hops. The Sabro Hops were the Lupomax version.
I chose these three hops for the blend because they all report to have lime character in the commercial marketing descriptors. I have plenty of LupoMax Sabro and wanted to pair it with a couple other hops of a similar vane so the lime concept came to me.
John tasted this beer and surprisingly really identified the citrus notes as orange. Specifically really fresh Valencia orange. I think he picked up a little of the Sabro coconut thing when he described the orange character as being a little creamsicle like in nature.
Overall, this is just enough total hop matter. The simple grain bill (Pale malt, flaked wheat, Carapils and sugar) really let the smaller amount of hops stand out in the beer. I think this contributed to the lack of green hop flavor bite in the beer.
