In this video I start the valve clearance adjustment on my Yamaha FZX 750. This is Part 1 of a two-part series where I focus on measuring valve clearances, understanding the factory specs, and explaining how shim sizes are calculated. I also walk through the process of preparing the engine, marking timing positions, and carefully removing the camshafts so the shims can be accessed.
This is not a rushed step-by-step tutorial, but a real look at how I approach valve work on an older motorcycle, including the small details, checks, and decisions that matter when working on a shim-under-bucket engine. Valve adjustment is critical for engine performance and longevity, so taking your time and doing it properly is key.
In Part 2, I’ll cover shim replacement, camshaft installation, timing checks, and final clearance verification.
