Learn how to safely perform a Banded Shoulder Press using a FitKit resistance band at the FitLot.
Performing a facing-away banded shoulder press creates a unique "pre-stretch" that increases muscle activation and stability compared to traditional overhead pressing. By anchoring the band behind you, the tension pulls your arms into extension, forcing your anterior deltoids and pectorals to work through a greater range of motion from the very first rep. This variation demands aggressive core and glute engagement to stabilize your spine against the band's forward pull, effectively building total-body postural strength. Additionally, the variable resistance builds superior lockout power as the band becomes heavier at the top of the movement, while simultaneously training the rotator cuff to stabilize the shoulder joint.
The exercise is easily modified by stepping towards or away from the anchor point.
