In July of 2025, Pinal County Public Works began a project to build a permanent wash crossing over the Vekol Wash at Ralston Road in Hidden Valley west of Maricopa.
This project, which requires a year-long road closure, is currently 55 percent complete, despite heavy rains and flooding in October 2025.
When completed, this crossing will not only provide a safe, permanent way across the wash, which is expandable to four lanes, but also provide erosion protection for the farmland and natural areas downstream.
