Gary Hoffman has been playing this regal 1662 Nicolò Amati cello for 38 years!! It once belonged to Leonard Rose and before that, a Russian Count who knew both Schumann and Mendelssohn! In this conversation I had backstage while performing with Gary Hoffman in Hong Kong, he talks about some of the past lives of his cello and how it even intertwined with his own journey.
