Choosing the right dog is very important! You must make sure your lifestyle will fit bringing another life into it for 10-20 years! These are the most important things to consider when choosing the right dog,

Size: Apartment living is not ideal for a larger dog and most apartments have strict no pet or sizing rules when it comes to renting. Dogs under 25 pounds are most ideal for apartment living.

If you travel a lot most airlines do not allow brachycephalic breeds meaning short-nosed dogs such as pugs. This is because they may have a hard time breathing during stress.

Also larger dogs may suffer from stress and extreme temperatures in the bottom of the airplane so consider how often you would travel with your pet.

All dogs are prone to destructive behavior if left alone or are suffering from boredom.

Breeds: There are breed specific health concerns like bloat in larger breeds like a great dane or hip dysplasia in Labrador retrievers. Make sure to research the health concerns for breeds you're interested in to be aware of the warning signs and to know if the breeder should have documentations from the parents stating they are not a carrier of certain life threatening breed specific issues.

Some breeds are more trainable while some can take more time. Some tend to be harder to potty train, while others are more prone to destructive behavior if left alone too frequently.


Consider what you're looking for in a furry companion,

Do you like to hike? Do you have a lot of time for a dog? Would like to take the time to teach them tricks and play frisbee? Do you have a large backyard? Consider a Border Collie.
