Описание: What was life in Sicily like to have caused 43,000 of her citizens to emigrate to New Orleans between 1880 and 1910? What effects have those and subsequent emigrants had on Sicily? How does life in Sicily today compare to that which her emigrants left? Learn this and more about Sicilian heritage and their connections with the New Orleans community by watching this presentation.

This program was recorded on Thursday, March 30, at the Madisonville Branch Library in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

The featured speaker is Christine Ewy. She is a New Orleans native and granddaughter of Sicilian immigrants. In Christine’s career in public education, she was a teacher, professor and writer of materials for children and teachers. Since then, Christine has authored Why People Live in New Orleans and served as a licensed volunteer tour guide for the Friends of the Cabildo. She is an active student of the Italian language. Her passion for uniting her family across the world and keeping their history alive across generations has shifted her writing from the public arena to works designed for family.
