Located on the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Grundarfjörður is a charming fishing village surrounded by dramatic mountains, wildlife, and waterfalls. The highlight of our day was visiting the famous Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall, set against the backdrop of the iconic Kirkjufell (Church Mountain) — one of the most photographed spots in all of Iceland.

After wandering through the quaint town and checking out the surprisingly reasonable Icelandic egg prices, we hiked to Kirkjufellsfoss, enjoying the free, scenic trail filled with beautiful views and plenty of wildlife — including playful Arctic birds protecting their nests. On our way back, we stopped at a cozy local café for a fresh mocha and homemade cakes, the perfect way to end our day.

Because Grundarfjörður is a tender port, we took a scenic water taxi from the Sky Princess into the fjord, which made arriving and leaving this stunning Icelandic town even more memorable.
