I hope you will enjoy this mini-series from The Mighty Garage featuring a complete restoration of this very interesting motorcycle, the infamous *Norton Manxman*.
This bike in particular is extra special in that it is the first production 650cc made by Norton.
EDIT: June 21: I should have explained why I'm doing this for newer viewers.
I have been fortunate enough to find the very first Norton Manxman. It originally came with the funky, cigar-shaped mufflers/silencers with the horizontal seam that you see in the video. My friend Sam kindly loaned me his mufflers and I'm trying to have a pair made using these as a pattern. But knowing that it will take some time to complete the restoration, I thought it would be just a bit of fun to hear how they sound compared to the standard Norton Atlas / Dominator mufflers. At some point, I will also want to know what the pattern parts should sound like and thought this would be a good reference.
We also knew that we would be working pretty close to one another and wanted to follow social distance guidelines, especially due to some personal medical concerns. We also haven't seen each other in some time, so wore face-masks out of respect for each other. My wife made the Norton mask 😷

June 17, 2020: In this video, we will be comparing the sound of the standard Norton Atlas / Dominator mufflers / silencers with a pair of original Norton Manxman mufflers.
Will they sound the same?? I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments, especially any Manxman owners out there. Do these sound the same as your bike?
Many thanks to Chuck for graciously allowing me to compare the Norton Manxman mufflers/silencers on his beautiful 1962 Norton 650/SS. This is as close as it gets to the original Manxman bike that I am in the process of restoring. It was a lot of fun and a relatively easy job to fit the different mufflers.
Thanks also to my friend Sam who very kindly loaned me these original Manxman mufflers.
Apologies for the sound quality on some of the clips. I'm working on improving the audio setup.
