Village Women Take Law Into Their Own Hands! ₹10,000 Fine for Drinking, ₹20,000 for Selling Liquor

Описание: In a strong stand against alcoholism, village women in Kaintra village under Kinjirikela police limits of Balishankara block, Sundargarh, have launched a strict anti-liquor movement. Fed up with rising alcohol abuse destroying families and livelihoods, women from 12 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have jointly enforced harsh penalties.

According to the new village resolution:

₹10,000 fine for consuming liquor

₹20,000 fine for selling liquor

₹25,000 fine for bringing liquor from outside villages

Those who violate the rules may face social boycott and expulsion from the village and community. The women took a collective oath, marched through the village, and warned offenders of strict action.

The SHG members have also submitted written complaints to Kinjirikela Police Station and the Sub-Collector, seeking administrative support. The movement reflects growing resistance by rural women against the social damage caused by alcohol abuse in Odisha’s villages.
